MOS 11 Utilities

1142 Electrical Equipment Repair Specialist

Sergeant Hodge, an Electrical Equipment Repair Specialist, served outside his Military Occupational Specialty. Sergeant Hodge quickly assimilated to the duties of the highest visibility section with the Platoon. Sergeant Hodge was responsible for supervising the DSI and Layettes Section which accounted for an $800,000.00 sub-inventory, managed supply support for both organic and intermediate level maintenance, and assisted in the operating of a $12,000,000.00 Consolidated Memorandum Report.

Sergeant Hodge was an integral part of the platoon's preparation for the Field Supply Maintenance Analysis Office (FSMAO) inspection that took place May 2015. Sergeant Hodge identified and tracked $700,000.00 worth of excess DSI repair parts; appropriately dispositioning 11,000 National Stock Number (NSN) items; and supervised the receipt, storage, and issue of 205 repair parts valued at $36,000.00. Sergeant Hodge's commitment and meticulous attention to detail resulted in raising the Battalion's readiness for the FSMAO inspection and the section receiving no formal findings or areas of concern for the Demand Supported Items sub-inventory.

On his own initiative, Sergeant Hodge established a functional layettes system. Sergeant Hodge conducted a complete overhaul which included drastic revision of the layette sub-inventory locators within Global Combat Support System-Marine Corps (GCSS-MC), reconfiguration of the DSI and layettes office space, and the creation of proper physical locators for the layettes and DSI that were within applicable Marine Corps supply and logistics policies.

Lastly, Sergeant Hodge satisfied a Commanding General's priority through the proper disposition of the stage sub-inventory. Sergeant Hodge eliminated 287 erroneous NSNs valued at over $190,000. In doing so, Sergeant Hodge appropriately returned all three sub-inventories to within compliant standing. Sergeant Hodge assumed the helm of a broken and neglected section that was operating far beyond Marine Corps policy and directive. Through his dedication and vigor from February to May 2015, Sergeant Hodge's corrective action allowed him to smoothly turnover a fully functional section operating within policy to another NCO.
