Four MSGs responded to an incident in which an American family needed help after a home invasion which left the husband and father, a U.S. AID doctor assigned to the embassy, incapacitated and in desperate need of medical assistance. A few Cameroonians broke into the doctor's house and attacked him and struck him in the head with a crow bar which left him with a 5 inch open wound and was bleeding profusely when we arrived. Dr. Henn was married and had two small children who were all traumatized and in shock.

SGT Loehwing was on duty that night at Post 1 at the embassy and after being unable to contact the NCOIC, called the Marine House and advised the four off duty MSGs of the situation. The MSGs drove to the Henn residence and secured the house and perimeter and then transported Dr. Henn to a medical clinic where we knew two American missionaries (a husband and wife team) worked and operated a maternity clinic.

We carried Dr. Henn into the emergency room and kept him stable on the operating table while the doctors worked on him to clean and close the wound. I remember watching them as they placed their fingers into the skull area looking for bone fragments or other foreign material before stitching up his wound.
