Machinery Repairman (MR) Evals
Responsible for the organization of SMI replacement pieces, such as two Garbage grinders, 5 80lb dyna dryers, Aft Galley ventilation part retrieval during a casualty, running a shop and organizing daily workloads, prepping night shift activities and setting up spot checks for a Junior sailor in order for them to get qualified maintenance management.
During the contractor period before deployment, worked with source and Eqol in the restoration of 1 washer and fixing 6 dryers so that the laundry status reached 70% working. While managing the shop and directing hotel to the correct areas, supporting current work flow and spot checks with contractor support.
Played a key role in the coordination of obtaining operational status of the ship's Galley and laundry Equipment during SMI 2026. Played an active role in the retrieval of $198,479.06 in parts that are critical for the AESS stations aboard, along with over $4000 worth of materials needed for pull-in on the mooring Capstans. Along with the retrieval of multiple other materials needed for habitability and for Captains window wipers and ventilation habitability issues throughout the ship.
SUBJECT MATTER EXPERT. Produced over 200 engravings, improving the ship's material condition. Completed 14 jobs that include locksmith and machinist characteristics. Conducted vital repairs to number 2 potable water pump by manufacturing 2 studs. Completed 50 additional trouble calls and weld jobs, expanding his level of experience.
COMPETENT & INNOVATIVE. Completed 14 jobs to better the reactor plant and various repair items throughout USS THEODORE ROOSEVELT. Removed 15 broken bolts in bulk laundry deck cover that provided aux division with ease of access to self service laundry below. Made vital repairs to number 2 potable water pump by manufacturing 2 studs to proper specification.
MRFN Hartel's short time on board has been in the best interest of the Navy. He has qualified in his basic qualifications to include 318 DC and Damage Control sound security ahead of schedule. The repair division's high tempo work load has provided him with out-of-rate experience while executing over 50 trouble calls and weld jobs.

- HIGHLY PRODUCTIVE. Manufactured 1,863 weld pipe assembly qualifications, 329 backing rings in support of
SWOSU Advanced Welder School, enabling all curriculum requirements to be met ahead of time. MRFN demonstrated exceptional autonomy in completing all assigned tasks. As an ASF Member, am Sentry Qualified lead sentry and stood 960 Hours throughout Naval Base San Diego. Stood watch from GATE 5a, 6, 13, 23, 40a, 43, pier 1, Balboa Hospital main ER, Downtown post 27a/post 27.
- SKILLED CRAFTSMAN. Fabricated and replaced 20 J-bar davits And 9 Flower Pots for the USS MUSTIN (DDG 89) and 7 flower Pots, 3 Waister Flanges for USS CURTIS WILBUR (DDG 54). Machined 3 Diesel Heads on VTL for the fleet.
Recommended for advancement to Third Class Petty Officer.
As assistant Petty Officer of 11-Delta, oversaw the efforts of 3 junior Sailors in tracking the training and qualifications of over 140 Sailors and over 7,000 individual documents. Responsible for management of ASM and training. MR1 ensured the availability of transportation, food, water, and equipment, coordinating with supply, galley, and tactical operation center, watch standers executed 120 watch turnovers, 103 meal deliveries, 4,700 Patrol Boat Pre-Operation check line items, 200 Patrol Boat Post-Operation check line items, 3,000 C4I Pre-Operation check line items, and 1,250 C4I Post-Check line items. Her efforts ensured watch standers were focused on mission readiness and security operations.
Machine Tool Operator lead instructor and LPO. MR1 spent 2520 hours providing FC training in addition to the development of a new responsive course providing an additional 896 hours of refresher training. Displayed expert technical knowledge during repairs for several priority trainers saving repair costs and down time. With expert manageral ability he improved the command's $4 million calibration program.
The smartest and most experienced member of Code 946, led five Sailors in accomplishing 9 inspections and subsequent repairs on 350 halon actuators for four ships, restoring firefighting capabilities and improving their survivability exponentially. Also completed the fabrication, overhaul, and repair of 820 flex hoses, 90 hose reels, 19 piping system leaks, and 15 piston liners resulting in a 98% on-time delivery rate and an increase in mission readiness for 70 PACFLT warships.
Since joining NTAG ORV Petty Officer Pittman has attended NORU at Naval Air Station Pensacola, where he completed recruiting school. He returned to NTAG ORV and attended recruiter university and became basic recruiter qualified. MR2 Pittman has since had achieved 1 NCO. Petty Officer Pittman has shown great improvement since becoming a part of division 4. He willingness to learn is above standards. MR2 Pittman showing the making of a great recruiter and is a valuable asset to DIV. 4 and is helping the Navy achieve their recruiting goals.
As the driving force behind the Machine Shop, he oversaw the completion of major repairs to the 7-meter RHIB, #5 AC, ship's pulper, hangar bay doors, and #1 SSDG; saved the command over $12,000 and allowed for the completion of multiple inspections during the ship's inaugural basic phase.
As 38A workcenter Supervisor, worked over 2,000 man hours, closed 13 Level 1 jobs, and contributed to the repair of the USS GEORGIA main reduction gear and the USS RHODE ISLAND diesel generator rotor.
Petty Officer Sailor's rate training program has a success rate of 100% advancement.
Manufactured over 50 mission critical parts, 10 being level-1 and 3 on a reduction gear for a Trident-class nuclear powered submarine, a first in Kings Bay history.
Provided meticulous support aboard the USS HUNLEY (AS-31). Designed the sealing ring system for the USS JOHN MARSHAL Slow Attack submarine and its mini warfare SEAL Team submersible.
Served as Machinery Repairman for Amphibious Construction Battalion One. Manufactured over 200 safety pins for the Roll On Roll Off Discharge Facility (RRDF) to restore the platform to operation. Manufactured a tachometer shaft for ACU-1's engine test stand.
As the only Machinery Repairman stationed in Coastal Patrol Squadron, participated in 5 turbo changeouts, 12 firepump changeouts, 6 anchor brake repairs, and 8 AC changeouts across 9 patrol coastal ships.
Led a highly professional machine shop with unrivaled production. Oversaw manufacture of an A/C pump for USS BOMBER.
