0231 Information Targeting Assessments Cell (ITAC) Lead
Corporal Camilo Gaitan is enthusiastically recommended for the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal in recognition of his meritorious service while performing duties as Information Targeting Assessments Cell (ITAC) Lead, Multi-Domain Task Group-2, Information Group, II Marine Expeditionary Force, from October 2025 to March 2026. During this period, Corporal Gaitan distinguished himself through the following significant accomplishments:
-Corporal Gaitan consistently demonstrated exceptional initiative, technical proficiency, and dedication to mission accomplishment while operating well beyond the traditional scope of his primary Military Occupational Specialty (MOS). His contributions directly enhanced the command's ability to integrate information-related capabilities and non-kinetic effects into operational planning and execution.
-His meticulous planning skills were instrumental in the successful execution of MDTG-2's Tactical Situation Report (TACSIT) during Joint Task Force Exercise 26 (JTFEX-26) and the Target Workbench during Cold Response 2026 regarding non-kinetic and information maneuver target nominations and processes in both scenarios.
-Demonstrating visionary foresight, he developed a comprehensive cross-training initiative for the Marine Air Ground Task Force (MAGTF) Command Element, increasing mission-critical redundancies and ensuring every section could maintain full information environment situational awareness throughout the entirety of JTFEX-26 and Exercise Cold Response 26 as part of a Multi-Domain Task Group.
-Demonstrating exceptional leadership and subject matter expertise, Corporal Gaitan also led the Information Targeting and Assessment Cell (ITAC), providing critical information reconnaissance and analysis in support of MAGTF targeting efforts. In this role, he coordinated efforts to identify, analyze, and assess targets within the information environment. His leadership ensured the ITAC effectively integrated intelligence analysis with information-related capabilities, directly enhancing the MAGTF's targeting process.
-He flawlessly orchestrated the Multi-Domain Task Group 2's (MDTG-2) information shot call and Current Operational Picture/Common Intelligence Picture on behalf of over 150 forward deployed Marines within the II Marine Expeditionary Force Information Group (MIG). His ability to synthesize complex intelligence reporting and operational data enabled the staff to identify opportunities where information operations could create decisive effects in support of MAGTF objectives.
-Operating outside the typical responsibilities of an All-Source Intelligence Specialist, Corporal Gaitan played a critical role in enabling MDTG-2 to synchronize information warfare capabilities across the MAGTF. Recognizing the growing importance of information operations in shaping the operational environment, he worked tirelessly to improve the development and refinement of assessment products used by commanders and staff to evaluate the effectiveness of non-kinetic operations. Through meticulous research, analysis, and collaboration, Corporal Gaitan enhanced the command's ability to measure and visualize the effects of information activities across the battlespace. His efforts significantly improved the staff's understanding of how non-kinetic effects can influence adversary decision-making, shape the information environment, and create conditions that enabled maneuver.
-Through his tireless work ethic and innovative approach, Corporal Gaitan significantly improved the command's ability to link assessment, targeting, and planning within the information domain. His efforts provided commanders with a clearer understanding of how information activities can shape the battlefield, degrade adversary capabilities, and support the maneuver of friendly forces. By bridging the gap between intelligence analysis and operational execution, he played a pivotal role in advancing the command's multi-domain operational capabilities.
Corporal Gaitan's unswerving determination, wise judgement, and complete dedication to duty reflected credit upon him and were in keeping with the highest traditions of the Marine Corps and the United States Naval Service.
