Navy Letter of Recommendation

For Commissioning as Human Resources Officer

I am honored to apply for a direct commission as a Human Resources Officer in the United States Navy Reserve. My commitment to service, combined with my skills and experience gained through both personal and professional endeavors, strongly aligns with the requirements of this program.

My desire to serve as a commissioned officer is rooted in the discipline, strong work ethic, and ethical values instilled in me by my parents and mentors. As a first born from immigrants, I was deeply inspired by my parents resilience and ambition in building a life in the United States, particularly my mother's courageous battle with cancer, which fueled my determination to excel. Guided by extensive research, mentors, and my parents, I pursued a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology at California State University, East Bay. This education led to a position in education as a substitute teacher, where I gained five years of experience fostering a positive learning environment and adapting to diverse classroom settings. However, I sought a more challenging and impactful opportunity, leading me to explore service options across the Department of Defense. Ultimately, I chose to enlist in the United States Reserve to broaden my skillset and contribute meaningfully to global missions.

As an enlisted member, I have had the privilege of working alongside several outstanding Human Resource Officers, gaining invaluable insight into the core competencies, program management, and recruiting skills essential for success in this field. My current deployment as a Personnel Specialist Second Class Petty Officer with Security Assistance Group Ukraine in Wiesbaden, Germany, further enhances these skills. In this role, I collaborate with exceptional officers, enlisted personnel, and Foreign Service members in a joint environment, honing my leadership abilities, program management expertise, communication skills, and capacity for innovative problem solving.

Furthermore, as a Personnel Specialist Second Class Petty Officer, my experience encompasses Human Resources practices across the Navy, Marine Corps, Army, and Air Force, enabling me to effectively support the personal and professional development of Sailors. Driven by my commitment to naval service, I am currently pursuing credentials to my Master of Counseling degree to expand my expertise. This advanced education will enhance my ability to excel as a Human Resource Officer and contribute to the readiness of a capable global workforce for global missions.

I would be honored and prepared to transition from Second Class Petty Officer to Human Resources Officer. Serving as a Human Resources Officer will provide me with the opportunity to collaborate with highly qualified Naval officers and enlisted personnel. I look forward to mentoring junior Sailors and providing individual guidance to support their professional development both within and beyond their Navy career. I am prepared to be an integral part of the team leading the Manpower, Personnel, Training and Education (MPTE) mission and eager to accept challenging assignments.
